Starting the holidays off with a kick…

13 Nov

It’s date night, and, I’m ready a bit early so I have time to write a bit.  We’re starting off the holidays a little early and with a kick… Have you figured out where we’re heading tonight?

If you guessed Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas Spectacular, you’d be right!

Radio City Christmas Show 2010

And this is just one of the many reasons the guy I started dating a few weeks ago is so perfect for me.  Like me, he’s a big kid at heart, and, he doesn’t feel silly or awkward taking me to the show.

We are cramming as much as we can into this weekend, because, I’m heading home to Chicago next weekend, and, unfortunately my boyfriend has commitments to his family in NYC.  Christmas will be another tough holiday to get through – I’m going on a holiday cruise with my family that we had booked for awhile now.  However, I am confident this isn’t going to shake our relationship nor do I believe either of us will lose any interest over this time.

It has been a refreshing change to date a normal guy who is confident in himself, AND, who actually trusts me.  It often boggles my mind why guys ALWAYS seem to think girls are cheating on them.  In my personal experience, it’s been the other way around.

But, I digress… I am looking forward to tonight.  We’re going to dinner after the show, and, I’m looking forward to that as well…  Kind of wish I knew where we’re going – it’s a surprise, but, it makes it hard to know how to dress.  So I’m going with a classic black dress and simple jewelry, no matter where we end up, I should be fine.

I’d also like to send a show out to Tina Smith – Happy Birthday Tina! 🙂  And many more to come!  Looking forward to working with you on the clothing drive in January, 2011.

Have a great Saturday evening everyone!

Dating

I had my first date with a guy last Friday night – we went to dinner and the theater, and, we had an absolutely wonderful time.  Since then we’ve managed to see each other at least once a day, and, so far things are great.

It’s been a refreshing change from the dates I’ve had previously until now.    I went out with a guy with a serious drinking problem.  That ended before we even got started – I ended it.  I couldn’t deal with his denial or his mood swings.

I went out with a guy who was just using me to meet another model – yes really.  That stung a bit.

And, I’ve been out with a garden variety of losers – the most notable… a 33 year old guy who still lives home, and, who’s biggest ambition in life is to wait for his parents to die, so he can inherit their money and not have to work.  (Hand to God, I swear it’s true!)

And, then of course, there are the Wall Street type business men looking for a trophy to trot around to parties who get sided lined the minute the introductions are done, and, business discussion begin.  Why bother?  These guys might as well take blow up dolls or mannequins with them since you (as the non Wall Streeter) aren’t allowed to speak, and, you are immediately cut off, and, escorted back to the “dates and partners corner” if you dare open your mouth.

I’m dating a very normal guy, and, it is the happiest I’ve been in the past 18 months.  He has a good job that pays well, but, he doesn’t live, eat, breath and talk about money 24 hours per day.  He’s fun to be with and comes up with very unique dating ideas – how many guys would take you to the Central Park Zoo or horse and carriage ride through Central Park and make it really fun?  This one did!

And, no, he isn’t George Clooney or Brad Pitt good looking.  He’s just a cute red head with a lot of personality .

How did we meet.  Through a mutual friend.  For me this has always been the secret to finding really nice guys.  I was never one to hang out in bars, I’d much rather be introduced through a friend who knows both of us, and, who thinks we would hit it off.

And, we did…  I’ll keep you posted 🙂

First Dates

30 Oct

I know a lot of people dread first dates because everything is so awkward, but, I happen to love them – and I had a fantastic first date last night.  I was introduced to my date last night through a mutual friend, and, since we’ve met and been out together in a group setting it really was more like a second or third date for us which made it even nicer.

First we went to eat at an Italian restaurant in Manhattan Basso56 (http://www.basso56.com/home.html) and it’s located at 234 West 56th Street.  In a word: yummy!!

We started dinner off with stuffed artichokes and grilled Portobello mushrooms for appetizers, and, both were absolutely delicious.  For our main courses, I had pasta with a wild boar sauce that was to-die-for good, and my date had a more traditional dish of pasta Bolognese.  The food was outstanding, and, the service was impeccable.  And, we shared a chocolate gelato for dessert.

Next we were off to see Mamma Mia – yes THAT Mamma Mia.  It was my date’s fourth time to the show, and, while I have seen Mamma Mia in both Chicago and Las Vegas, this was my first time seeing it on Broadway.  What a blast!

The only problem is now I can’t get “Take A Chance on Me” out of my head!

After the show, my date surprised me with a horse and carriage ride.  And, we ended the evening with drinks at the St. Regis Hotel.

It was a fantastic first date!

We’re going out again today – we’re having lunch and going to the Central Park Zoo.  And, we’ll wing it from there.  Then on Sunday, we’re heading to the Halloween Parade in the Village with some friends, including the friend who introduced us.

It’s going to be a very good weekend 🙂  I hope yours is equally good!
