Australia and saying so long to a dear friend

23 Jun

Yes, I’ve been a bad girl and haven’t blogged in ages, but, I did just spend a month in Australia.  My dear friend, my best friend the past several years, Elena just moved to Sydney where her husband Paul grew up.  It was a bitter sweet trip.  I could stay in Australia forever — the people are wonderful, the beautiful weather, and, clean!  It puts NYC or just about any city in the USA to shame!  Check out some of my photos from the trip!

Heading to Australia, very excited!

12 Mar

It’s with both excitement and sadness I blog today that my husband Gary and I are heading to Australia in a few weeks with our good friend Paul and Elena Harris.  The excitement is due to the fact this is the second time we’ve been invited to Australia, the first time was for their (Paul and Elena’s) wedding, but, unfortunately this trip will not have as happy of an ending as the last.  You see, Elena and Paul are moving back to Australia permanently and, short of Gary getting transferred there, I’m not sure when I’ll see Elena and Paul again.

Elena was my first real friend in New York, and, throughout the years we grew as close as sisters.  And, I know she’s only an instant message away, but, it just isn’t the same as being to see someone on a daily basis.  Of course, I am happy for them.  Elena doesn’t have any family in the United States to speak of, and, Paul’s family are all in Australia, so, I do understand their need and desire to be with them.  And, given the fact they want to start a family soon, and, knowing the horrible education system in the United States without a doubt this is the best move they can possibly make.  And, now Gary and I have an excuse to visit Australia far more frequently.  The only thing I am dreading is the incredibly long, tedious flights.

And, so I’ve been flight shopping today hoping by hope that somehow, some brilliant engineering genius found a way to cut down the travel time, but, sorry to say… No… Still no hope for a non-stop flight from New York to Sydney.  So it looks like we’ll do the Los Angeles thing for a day or two, and, get a non-stop from there.  Not that it’s a walk in the park from LA to Sydney.  Far from it — roughly 15 hours.  The only half way good news is that the flights leave late at night, so, hopefully with the aid of a sleeping pill, it will at least be tolerable.

One thing for sure — I need to see and play with koalas and roos during our visit down under.  Oh I’m sure an Aussie or two are rolling their eyes at that comment, but, for someone like it me, they’re very much a novelty!  And, I can’t just wait to go say G’day!

It’s been a busy, busy month

10 May

Well, what a month its been and the momentum continues!  As you may recall I spend several weeks in the UK for work purposes, and, I just happened to be there for the event of the year — the Royal Wedding.  I know I am terrible about keeping this blog updated but here are some of the photos I was able to get 🙂

Please note I have copyright to these photos:

Now as to HOW I got so close to get these photos…  Well, those who know me — know me, and, we’ll just leave it at that –he he he 🙂

Back here on planet earth, I’m busy getting ready to head to Australia for my friend Elena’s wedding at the end of the month, and, of course, my own wedding plans are currently underway.   I do love the dress that Kate selected, some people think it was far too simple — I say you didn’t have the opportunity to really “see” the quality and detail in this exquisite dress!  The whole wedding (after getting to view it on tv) was perfection — and, it should serve as a roll model to many young brides out there.

Yes, I do have MANY more photos of London, the Royal Wedding, and, me, but, those are for my personal friends and family to share.

Lastly, I’d like to give a shout out to Jacqueline Collen-Tarrolly who has “friended” me via Facebook.  She’s trying to raise money to open a store and if you’d like to make a donation here’s how to do it – http://toadstoolfarm.com/mushroomgravy/?p=167

I’ll be making my own donation to Jacqueline’s dream before leaving for Australia – best wishes on a successful business Jacqueline from one modeling misfit to another!

Another week just about gone…

I swear I’ve been so busy lately that the days and weeks are just blurring into one.  This is a good thing, because, in a few short weeks, I’m heading to Australia for my friend Elena’s wedding.  (The wedding is in May.)

I don’t have anything fun or interesting to really write about this week.  It’s been one of those “keeping the nose to the grindstone” weeks, and, unfortunately that makes for a dull blog entry.  I AM excited about my parents coming to NYC next weekend 🙂  They’re going to meet Gary’s parents for the first time, and, we’re all going to discuss wedding plans, and, just have some fun together.

Oh well, I guess, I DO have something to tell you…  If you’ve been following along, we have decided to book The Plaza Hotel for our wedding.  A few weeks ago I put up a poll on my Facebook page asking for friends, family, and, fans for their input, and, hands down the majority of people voted for The Plaza.  So that’s now a done deal.   If you’ve never seen The Plaza Hotel or haven’t seen it since it’s renovations, you can see photos on my Facebook page at:

And, yes, of course I’m excited!  But, the wedding is such a small part of the overall picture — if Gary I went to City Hall to be married, I’d be just as excited.  I’m just so happy when I am with Gary, we have so much in common, and, we’re always laughing, and, most importantly he makes me feel like the most special person in the world.  I can’t wait to be his wife, and, in a few years, start a family together.

Speaking of weddings, I will be in London during Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding.  And, no, I wasn’t one of the lucky people invited, but, regardless, I do wish them luck and happiness together (even though I’ve never met either one of them.)  So, with all of this going on, I guess you can understand why I don’t have much to write about for this entry.  Then again, it is rather amazing how much I managed to ramble on about nothing so far 🙂

Well, I see the clock is ticking away, and, Gary and I are meeting Elena and Paul for dinner and a movie tonight.  So with that I will wish you all a pleasant weekend, and, I’ll check in with you again next week!

Australia here we come!

It wasn’t long after I moved to New York City to start my modeling career that I met my good friend Elena.  She has proven to be someone who shares a lot of the same ideas, thoughts, and, outlook on life that I do – and she’s just a sweetheart.  And, it was Elena that introduced me to Gary, so, you know this woman holds a very special place in my heart 🙂

In a few short weeks Gary, Elena, and, I will be packing up and heading down under – to Australia that is – Elena is getting married and her wonderful fiance, Paul, is from Sydney!  I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am, but also, how I’m also dreading that 22 hour flight…

We’ll be spending a total of two weeks in Australia, and, yes I promise lots of photos!  This time I might actually manage to get them up!  And, yes, I’m in the bridal party and yes Elena is in my bridal party – we’re THAT close.

So what’s on the agenda besides a beautiful wedding?  Gary and I are trying to figure out how to budget our time to get to see and do as many things as possible.  Here are some of the possibilities:

I’m sure this list is going to change and grow as we get closer to the departure date, and, if I’m this excited now, I can’t imagine how excited I’m going to be then.  Well, off I go, back to work time….

Wedding update

23 Feb

Yesterday I publicly announced that I’m getting married.  And, for those who have emailed or posted on Facebook with congratulations, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I promise you Gary is a wonderful guy who has a great job, and, he isn’t after money nor a show business career.  He’s simply “the one”.

I’ve noticed one thing in my life, weddings come in spurts…  The last time I experienced a wedding spurt was about 3 years ago when a friend from college was getting married, followed by two of my cousins all within 18 months of each other.

This time… it began with my best friend in NYC, Elena when she announced her engagement to a wonderful guy from Australia last year.  Then over Christmas one of my life long friends who happens to be gay announced his wedding/commitment ceremony, and, now here it is me making the “big” announcement.

As for “where” we are holding the wedding- well that’s still up in the air.  I’m from suburban Chicago, and, Gary is a native New Yorker.  We both have large families and much of both families are scattered throughout the Country or in my case the world since I have close relatives in England and Ireland.  So, this is rapidly becoming an International affair, but, that’s actually a good thing.

I’ve already been contacted by no less than 3 dozen wedding planners, and, I’m getting bombarded with all types of wedding venue ideas.  It’s actually fun looking at the different venues because each is so unique that it would give the wedding a completely different feel and theme.  So we’re discussing everything from how big of a wedding we want to the type of wedding we want.

In the meantime, I’m gearing up to head to both England and Australia.  England is for work and Australia for Elena’s wedding.  I can’t wait!!

Stay tuned for updates!

And to everyone else thank  you for your readership, thank you for helping my modeling career take off, thank you for reading my Examiner.com column and thank you for your loyalty.

The new two weeks are going to be a bit crazy for me as I wrap up the year, but, I will try to post one or two more times before I leave on vacation.  If I am not able to post – I wish each of you reading this post a very happy and healthy holiday season and I wish the very best for each and everyone one of you in 2011.
