Heading to Australia, very excited!

12 Mar

It’s with both excitement and sadness I blog today that my husband Gary and I are heading to Australia in a few weeks with our good friend Paul and Elena Harris.  The excitement is due to the fact this is the second time we’ve been invited to Australia, the first time was for their (Paul and Elena’s) wedding, but, unfortunately this trip will not have as happy of an ending as the last.  You see, Elena and Paul are moving back to Australia permanently and, short of Gary getting transferred there, I’m not sure when I’ll see Elena and Paul again.

Elena was my first real friend in New York, and, throughout the years we grew as close as sisters.  And, I know she’s only an instant message away, but, it just isn’t the same as being to see someone on a daily basis.  Of course, I am happy for them.  Elena doesn’t have any family in the United States to speak of, and, Paul’s family are all in Australia, so, I do understand their need and desire to be with them.  And, given the fact they want to start a family soon, and, knowing the horrible education system in the United States without a doubt this is the best move they can possibly make.  And, now Gary and I have an excuse to visit Australia far more frequently.  The only thing I am dreading is the incredibly long, tedious flights.

And, so I’ve been flight shopping today hoping by hope that somehow, some brilliant engineering genius found a way to cut down the travel time, but, sorry to say… No… Still no hope for a non-stop flight from New York to Sydney.  So it looks like we’ll do the Los Angeles thing for a day or two, and, get a non-stop from there.  Not that it’s a walk in the park from LA to Sydney.  Far from it — roughly 15 hours.  The only half way good news is that the flights leave late at night, so, hopefully with the aid of a sleeping pill, it will at least be tolerable.

One thing for sure — I need to see and play with koalas and roos during our visit down under.  Oh I’m sure an Aussie or two are rolling their eyes at that comment, but, for someone like it me, they’re very much a novelty!  And, I can’t just wait to go say G’day!

We’re BOTH getting colds

27 Sep

Well, it started out to be a good day… Make that a GREAT day, but, as the day progressed I began not to feel so well.  My throat began to feel scratchy, then I got a headache, and, now I can’t stop sneezing.

Unfortunately, all my friends are sick and I’ve been running food and cold supplies to them, and, I think I am now catching it.  Strangely, when I got home, I found Gary on the sofa — unless he is sick he never just crashes there – and sure enough he’s not feeling well either.

So, now we’re both sneezing our heads off knowing the worst is yet to come.  And, instead of staying home and taking care, my hero husband went out to get us cold supplies and food knowing that tomorrow is going to be hell for us both.

Our friends have described this cold as more of a flu.  It hits hard and fast, and, it isn’t quick to leave.  Oh joy…. And, let me be perfectly clear, I do NOT blame my friends for this cold.  It happens.

I’d write more but I feel another sneezing fit coming on, and, I’m simply not up to writing any further.  I’m sure I”ll be writing again tomorrow, something tells me I’m going to be in store for a long, long, long weekend…

Gary is back. He just sneezed his way in the door…

It’s the end of the year? ALREADY?!?

19 Dec

Geez, I hate to sound like an 80 year old, but, where did the time go?  This year absolutely flew by — I can’t believe Christmas is this weekend!!  Fortunately, I’m done shopping, my family is flying to NYC to see and my future hubby, and, the only thing I have to do is get the apartment  “Mom Inspection” clean, and, of course, start cooking for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

I’m also thrilled that my KIVA team is just $50 of hitting our 2011 goal.  Ok, sure I did aim low this year because I formed the team so late in the year — it was almost July, nonetheless, at least we’re going to make the goal that I set so that is  wonderful all in itself.  It also makes the holiday season matter that much more — for the first time in my life I feel like I’m actually doing something real to help others who just need a helping hand up.  (And, KIVA allows people do just that – it’s a wonderful organization, and, I am proud to be part of it!)  If the giving mood happens to strike you while you’re reading this take a moment to join my team and donate to my team’s goal.  Here is the link:  http://www.kiva.org/team/rosegoodhallteamfashion  and hey that’s kind of neat… I just saw that I have 57 “recommends” for Facebook on my Kiva page — thanks for your support guys!!

As far as wedding news…  Well, I had a bit of a heartbreak today… No, no, it isn’t what you’re probably thinking.  Gary and I are still very much “on”.  No, this heartache is all due a wedding venue that I didn’t know was available until today…

It seems that Cunard is now offering weddings at sea… My heart dropped when I read this article this morning:  http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1YPBrR

If I had only known sooner…

And, so with that my dear friends, family, fans and readers, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season, and, may all your dreams come true for you in 2012.  I thank each and everyone of you for being in my life – I love you all!

Happy Holidays!
