Fall 2015 in NYC: What’s not to love

23 Oct

Well, yes, I’ve been a bad girl.  I haven’t kept up my New Year’s resolution to be more faithful about posting in my blog.  Shame on me, but, I do have a busy life, and, it can be hard to find the time and energy to post.  Regardless, I am going to make more of an effort.  I know I say that every single time, but, I do mean it.  I just have to execute it!

As Meg Ryan says in “You’ve Got Mail” don’t you love Fall?  Actually the exact quote is “Don’t you love New York in the Fall?”  Gary and I have so much going on from what promises to be a fantastic Halloween party at our friend Amanda Cumming‘s place to getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and, New Year’s Eve.  Oh sure, some cynic out there will say the leaves in Central Park haven’t changed yet, and, the weather’s been too warm, but, it doesn’t change what time of year it is and that’s the part to focus on.  I mean, sure, I’d love to see more explosive Fall colors in the trees and foliage, but, and, admittedly, it is a bit bizarre to see people ice skating at Rockefeller Center with short sleeve shirts but, it is such a busy and fun time of year, I don’t know why I used to hate it so much.

Maybe things will start feeling more like Fall next weekend.  After all, what’s Halloween without the crunch, crunch, crunch of leaves as you walk on the sidewalk?  And, with the opening of the Bryant Park Holiday Village next Friday (October 30th) and the New York Marathon on Sunday, November 1st.  Maybe the weather will catch up with the calendar and things will start to feel more like true Fall.

Time for new Halloween decorations

4 Oct

Well here it is Tuesday, and, I find myself with a rare day and a half off — no go sees, no fittings, no photo shoots, no casting — just 1.5 days to myself to do as I wish.  So, what do I decide to do?  Well, ok, write in my blog was the oblivious answer…  But, the real answer is I did my Fall cleaning.  (Some people do Spring cleaning, I do it twice a year and do a Fall AND Spring cleaning.)

But, I digress… I was doing my Fall cleaning, and, stumble upon some old photos, and, I put a few on my Facebook page, I sorted through clothes and made a pile of clothes I no longer wanted for Goodwill and for Dress for Success.  And, then I found my boxes of Holiday stuff — everything from Halloween to Christmas to Valentine’s Day and beyond… I swear I could open my own party store I have so much junk!

Anyhow, my Halloween decorations are looking a bit sad.  And, I figure that is how I will spend part of my day off – shopping for Halloween decorations.  I guess I’m just a big kid at heart, but, I happen to love Halloween.

Oh sure, I could get into the whole discussion about the Pagan roots of Halloween or perhaps discuss the Salem witch trials, but, I won’t…

First of all, I don’t feel like thinking that hard today, and, secondly, and, more importantly — when I get on topics that really excite me, I tend to get wordy and I get too deep into philosophical and psychological thought patterns that would probably bore the skin off the typical reader so I will spare you…

And with that I am off to get my new decorations 🙂

Ok…  Who’s going to message me first to have a discussion on this topic?!?  I have a few guesses… Let’s see if I am right!

Halloween Parade 2010

1 Nov

Since I don’t have a lot of time to write today, here are some photos from the 2010 Halloween parade.  I had an awesome time, and, would go again in a heartbeat.  It was cold, but, oh so much fun!!

Puppets are a huge part of the Halloween Parade in NYC

As you can see, some of the puppets are huge!

Princeton University was part of the 2010 Halloween parade in NYC

Michael Jackson was there! And he was GREEN!

One of the floats, for the life of me I don't remember who the group was representing the float

Lady Gaga was "the" costume of the night. You couldn't take five steps without bumping into her!

Even Marilyn Monroe came to the parade!

I have more photos to upload – some of them are “r” to “x” rated so I need to go through them, and, then I’ll also post photos of me and the friends I went with to the parade – better known as “The Motley Crew”!!

Hope your Monday was a great one!
