The Nerdy Model Marries

30 Jun

Well, it’s official I am now married, and, have been for the past month.  Gary and I had a wonderful wedding and excellent reception in NYC.  And below you can finally see me in my wedding gown at The Plaza Hotel in New York City.  If you are a New Yorker or area resident, and, you have the budget I can whole-heatedly recommend The Plaza!

Below is the our reception at The Plaza prior to the arrival of guests:

And several things have changed since I last blogged.  Well, besides the oblivious of me getting married and taking my husband’s last name, I have stopped modeling, and, I am going into business with the girl who helped mentor me when I began modeling — Susan Flynn Doyle.   I not ready to make a big announcement of what we have in the works, but, you can rest assured it DOES revolve around fashion, and, a tiny niche market we feel is being overlooked, yet, still offers huge potential and growth.  Fingers are crossed.  We’ll be launching the business in the coming months.

And, yes, getting back to our wedding, it was wonderful.  My bridesmaids and matron of honor all looked stunning, and, I thank each and everyone of them for their time and devotion they gave to me and Gary.  They helped make a special day even more magical.

Our honeymoon… Well, I’ll blog about that later when I have more time, and, when I have the photos uploaded, but, we spent two wonderful weeks in France and Italy.  It was perfect in every way.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who helped make our wedding so picture perfect!  It is truly appreciated and you all can expect rave reviews on your sites or LinkedIn from us shortly.

Almost wedding time… almost

29 Mar

For those of you who think I’ve fallen off the planet, sorry to disappoint you, but, I’m still very much alive and kicking.   I know it’s been months – since December, 2011 to be exact — since I’ve take a few minutes to blog, and, I do ask for your forgiveness if you’ve been a regular reader.   So far most of 2012 has consisted of me stopping modeling and undertaking a new work endeavor (more to be revealed later in the year), and, of course, my all-free-time-consuming wedding.  So that’s where I’ve been.

Don’t be sad about me not modeling anymore, I LOVED every minute of my time being a model and there are so many aspects of modeling that I am going to miss, but, it was time to move on.  My age is beginning to work against me in this ultra youth oriented business, and, I had a wonderful opportunity open up to me in another area of fashion that I just couldn’t let pass me by.

I’m still writing for Examiner.com, as a matter of fact, I just started writing for them again this past week.  I was asked back, so, I must have done something right!  Here’s my page if you’d like to subscribe:  http://www.examiner.com/fashion-in-new-york/rose-goodhall  But, I have to admit, it is great to be back writing at Examiner.com

I’ve made another new writing friend, T.R. Threston, and, if you’re into travel then you should subscribe to her Examiner.com column too, she does a wonderful job and has lots of great travel tips:  http://www.examiner.com/luxury-lifestyle-travel-in-new-york/t-r-threston

Now, let’s talk about my all consuming wedding.

It’s funny.  Gary and I started off that we wanted a small wedding — really small.  Close friends and family only.  Well, then it started…

Family members had hurt feelings they weren’t going to be invited and that upped the guest list, then the co-workers started asking about their invitations and the guest list went up again.  Then friends from college, high school, even grade school began coming out of the wood work!  The amazing part is that very few were deterred that the wedding is taking place in New York City and not in Chicago.  Go figure.

So our “small” wedding is now several hundred people — I’m doing my best to keep this from turning into a three ring circus.  I just want the wedding over and my life with Gary to begin.  I know it sounds unromantic, but, for me its about the life after the wedding, and, not just the wedding.

Finally we are at the point that everything is done.  My gown and bridesmaids dresses were ordered and fittings and final fittings are now taking place.  Gary and our groomsmen have all been fitted for tuxedos and they are on order and should be here shortly.  We have our church book, our musicians selected, our receptions venue under deposit with final payment coming up rapidly.  We are ready to walk down the aisle and say I do.

The big day?  Memorial Day Weekend.  Stay tuned for frantic updates from the bride (me).  Because with my luck… Who knows what will go wrong <Grin>

Totally unrelated thoughts….

29 Nov

Did you ever have a day when just about everything goes wrong?  Today was one of those days for me… Nothing major went wrong, but, just a bunch of small stuff that added up to one big headache…

I had my parents and brothers visiting over Thanksgiving weekend, and, of course, my Mom accidentally left her glasses “somewhere” at my house.   I’ve been looking since Sunday morning, and, finally this morning I found them… In the freezer.  I’m not going to ask — but, as of right now, they are on their way back to Chicago to their rightful owner.   It doesn’t sound so bad, but, when you realize I spent 1.5 just trying to get the darn things sent out at the post office, you can understand my frustration — especially after you learn that I was sent to the back of the line because I didn’t have the zip code on my return receipt.  (You know the one you get to keep for your records and doesn’t mean anything to anyone else.)  Well the a$$ that waited on me couldn’t hand me a pen to fill it in – nope I was banished to back of the line.   I won’t tell you what I called the guy under my breathe but I would have made any sailor proud!

After that little aggravation, I went on a couple of “go-sees” (which is modeling lingo for going to see people about various jobs for photo shoots or runway jobs.)  One person was 30 minutes late.  One person never showed up at all – without so much as a call to my agency to either cancel or reschedule the casting.

I get home only to find out that my fiancee has to add a few more people to our already complicated seating chart for our wedding in the Spring…

And, then I get the brilliant idea of going on Facebook to escape the world for a while.  That was a mistake… I found one rather rude post from someone with nothing better to do than attack me, so, this person has been banned and removed from my Facebook life.  But, it’s just annoying to think that people “hide” behind a computer and write mean, cruel things they never would have the guts to tell you in person.

To cap off the day, I received a phone call from my travel agent to let me know that the hotel we wanted for our honeymoon is going to be undergoing renovations, and, now we have to decide if we want to put up with renovations at our top choice hotel and location or go with something else.

Granted — there is nothing tragic here.  No one died, no one was hurt or fell ill, and, separately these are all problems that could be easily handled…  However, when you put it all together – – it adds up to one aggravating day.

Well enough of my moaning and groaning…

I do want to put some positive Karma in the air, and, try to end the day on a more positive note.  If you are a horse lover and have the means to spare a few extra dollars, a Facebook friend, Jacqueline Collen Tarrolly, is desperately trying to save her equine family from being torn apart.   If you can help please visit her website and take part in The Great Toadstool Farm Raffle or the Adopt a Toadstool Farm Horse program.

Good luck Jacq!

It’s been a busy summer and fall looks just as busy

24 Sep

I know…

I’ve been a very bad girl and haven’t kept up with my blogging, but, I do have a pretty good excuse, I’ve been very busy!  Let’s see, where do I begin?

Fashion Week 2011

Fashion Week, I guess… If you’ve never been involved in Fashion Week there is no way to describe the absolute chaos that surrounds it — of course, I mean this in a positive way, but, nonetheless, it would make even the calmest person’s head spin!  You have fittings, more fittings, hair styling, and, lots of time waiting around waiting to walk down a runway for a total of roughly 40 seconds.  The upside to Fashion Week madness?  One of the designers (although I am not allowed to tell who — just someone from a major fashion house) allowed me to keep one of the garments that I wore on the runway!  And, I absolutely love this piece!  I know a lot of people assume that the models get to keep the clothing, but, in reality, it is rare, and, that is why this is such a big deal.  Especially since the retail price of this garment is in the $4500 range!

Then add in my regular modeling work, fortunately, it has been based in New York during fashion week, but, it means hours of clothes fittings, makeup, hair, and, lots of time in front of a camera getting that “perfect” shot.

The Plaza Hotel -- the location of our wedding reception

Now let’s add in my own wedding which has been tons of little headaches… One of my bridesmaid dresses was ordered in the wrong size, and, it had to be reordered.  We have a few out of town guests who would like “cheaper” accommodations, but, don’t want to stay outside of Manhattan!  Fortunately, I am working with a wonderful, extremely patient and professional travel agent who is helping me out, but, the guidelines set have made it more than challenging to find a hotel for these specific guests!  Now I know why my BFF in NYC, Elena, had such a small wedding in Australia!

Speaking of Elena, I’d like to give some shout outs…

Shout Outs

Congratulations to Elena and Paul who are now officially married in the eyes of the United States!

Congratulations to Jacqueline Collen Tarrolly on officially opening her new business (Toadstool Farm Vintage) – complete with ribbon cutting ceremony!  Very cool!

Congratulations to Tina for getting her copyright for her new book “Tharston Manor“.  I can’t wait to read it!

And, then getting back to my schedule and life… Well, then there is the matter of Gary, I make it a point to spend as much time with him as possible each day, and, we have “date” night at least once a week.

Matter of fact, we went to see “Moneyball” last night, and, I absolutely LOVED it.  I mean, I’m a baseball fan, but, I certainly don’t live for the sport, but, this is such a feel good movie, everyone — regardless if you like baseball or not — should go see it.

And, Gary’s Aunt and Uncle are coming in today for the week from California, and, we’re going to see “Anything Goes” tonight on Broadway.  I’m looking forward to it!

So that’s why I’ve been up to in a nutshell, and, that is why I’ve been such a bad girl about not blogging for so long.

Oh and one last thing — for future fashion designers….  Please be sure to follow my column on Examiner.com this coming week… I’ll be featuring a scholarship opportunity via Project Runway!

Ok… I think that’s really it this time, I promise I’ll try to blog a bit more regularly, but, if I don’t you can always catch up with me via my Fashion Column: http://www.examiner.com/fashion-in-new-york/rose-goodhall or on Facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/rosegoodhall

Thanks for reading!

Rainy Sunday

15 Aug

Yes, I’m here and I’m alive and kicking.  It’s a rainy day on Sunday, August 14, 2011 and I do mean raining!  Some places on Long Island had over 10 inches of rain… Just imagine if it was snow…..

Check out a photo that I took today, this should give you an idea of how wet it is out there…

Another week just about gone…

I swear I’ve been so busy lately that the days and weeks are just blurring into one.  This is a good thing, because, in a few short weeks, I’m heading to Australia for my friend Elena’s wedding.  (The wedding is in May.)

I don’t have anything fun or interesting to really write about this week.  It’s been one of those “keeping the nose to the grindstone” weeks, and, unfortunately that makes for a dull blog entry.  I AM excited about my parents coming to NYC next weekend 🙂  They’re going to meet Gary’s parents for the first time, and, we’re all going to discuss wedding plans, and, just have some fun together.

Oh well, I guess, I DO have something to tell you…  If you’ve been following along, we have decided to book The Plaza Hotel for our wedding.  A few weeks ago I put up a poll on my Facebook page asking for friends, family, and, fans for their input, and, hands down the majority of people voted for The Plaza.  So that’s now a done deal.   If you’ve never seen The Plaza Hotel or haven’t seen it since it’s renovations, you can see photos on my Facebook page at:

And, yes, of course I’m excited!  But, the wedding is such a small part of the overall picture — if Gary I went to City Hall to be married, I’d be just as excited.  I’m just so happy when I am with Gary, we have so much in common, and, we’re always laughing, and, most importantly he makes me feel like the most special person in the world.  I can’t wait to be his wife, and, in a few years, start a family together.

Speaking of weddings, I will be in London during Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding.  And, no, I wasn’t one of the lucky people invited, but, regardless, I do wish them luck and happiness together (even though I’ve never met either one of them.)  So, with all of this going on, I guess you can understand why I don’t have much to write about for this entry.  Then again, it is rather amazing how much I managed to ramble on about nothing so far 🙂

Well, I see the clock is ticking away, and, Gary and I are meeting Elena and Paul for dinner and a movie tonight.  So with that I will wish you all a pleasant weekend, and, I’ll check in with you again next week!

Wedding plans underway

18 Mar

One of my very close friends, Tony, asked me if there are more wedding plans to reveal, and, I told him “yes” but that I won’t reveal them until next week.  I’m a bit superstitious (as silly as it is) about telling anything until I am absolutely certain it is concrete.

I don’t want to say “Hey, we booked such and such for the wedding reception” only to have it fall through because someone booked our date first!  But, yes, things are well under way for the Rose and Gary wedding in 2012.

One of the hardest projects has been selecting bridesmaid dresses.  I know I’ve been in my fair share of weddings, and, I don’t care what the bride thinks — there isn’t anyway I’ll ever wear ANY of the bridesmaids I ever bought.  I’m not as bad as Katherine Heigl in “27 Dresses“, but, I do have a number of dresses that I probably should just pack up and give to Goodwill.  It is something I’ll have to make a point of doing when I get home to Chicago.  My Mom has been after me forever to do that…

Anyhow, getting back to the wedding plans… Here’s what I will tell you so far…

  • Since we’re both Roman Catholic, of course, our wedding will be a Roman Catholic ceremony
  • For a lot of different reasons including having family all over the world, we’re having the wedding and reception in NYC — specifically Manhattan
  • The wedding will be in 2012
  • Gary’s best man is his brother John, my maid of honor is my best friend in NYC Elena

And that’s all I’m telling for you, so if you’re interested… You’ll just have to keep reading to find out the rest of the information!  Yes, I know… I’m a stinker!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Springing ahead

13 Mar

Ok, yes, my “blondness” was at its best this weekend, like many others out there I forgot to set my clock ahead last night, and, again this morning.  Personally, while I prefer the Spring and Summer months, I could do without this losing one hour of sleep.

It’s been a busy month, and, my schedule is getting even more jam packed between work, Elena’s wedding, and, of course my own.  That isn’t to say Gary and I still don’t make a true effort to have “date night” at least once per week.  For example, this weekend we went to The Monkey Bar (an NYC institution — you know — one of those places to see and be seen in…) and then we headed to Broadway to catch “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” staring Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette.

Loved the show, and, thought the cast was great, but, I kept waiting for Daniel to morph into Harry Potter.  I guess it will be a while before most people take him for anything beyond Harry Potter, and, truthfully, after I let the whole Harry Potter and Hogwarts thing go… I was pleasantly surprised.  Radcliffe can REALLY act – so yes, I do highly recommend the show to just about anyone.

So that’s all I have to say at the moment, I’m off to chat with my bridesmaids about various wedding things.  And, of course, Elena and Paul’s wedding in Australia comes closer with every week, and, there is so much I need to do before gearing up for that trip.

Until next time, all the best to you and yours…

Me, Justin Timberlake and The Plaza Hotel

4 Mar
The Plaza Hotel, seen from corner of 5th Ave a...

Well, I started out to write about our upcoming wedding  (which I will get to momentarily), but, when I signed on, I saw that I had an unusually large amount of hits today — so I checked my status and the sending link is: http://www.cinabeng.co.cc/justin-timberlake-car-accident-today

Ummm — what does our wedding or I (for that matter) have to do with Justin Timberlake?  After a quick search I didn’t see anything about him being in a car accident…  So, I don’t know who you are or how you got this blog address, I appreciate the hits, but, I’d prefer if I weren’t tied into this type of non-existent hype.  Thanks!

Now moving on the “real” news of the day…  I placed a poll on my Facebook pages, and, asked everyone (who is interested) to vote on where Gary and I should hold our wedding reception.  Hands down, The Plaza Hotel in NYC is pulling ahead fast.  True — so far only 53 people have voted, but, it was still an overwhelming landslide in favor of The Plaza.

And, the more I think about it, the more I’m getting into the idea.  So, I made arrangements for Gary and I to meet the wedding coordinator at The Plaza — along with our wedding planner, and, we’ll see if the date we want is open for next week.

There is just “something” – oh I don’t know – let’s call it nostalgic – about The Plaza Hotel, but, I find it rather romantic.  Perhaps because so many great movies where filmed there or just the history of the building, but, it does seem “right”.

I’ll keep you posted and hopefully have some photos to share with you all next week so you can see the rooms too 🙂   Have a great weekend everyone!
