The V Foundation for Cancer Research

The V Foundation was founded in 1993, in a partnership between former NC State award-winning basketball coach/commentator Jim Valvano and ESPN to fund critical research in the fight against cancer. We award 100 percent of all direct cash donations to cancer research and related programs. It was Valvano’s dream to one day find a way to stop cancer. He did not survive his disease, but because of him, we have a foundation that has awarded over $115 million in cancer research grants in the past 20 years. #GivingTuesday is the same day as the kick-off of one of our biggest yearly events – Jimmy V Week, hosted by ESPN. It is a wonderful opportunity to unite two events with a common goal – raising money for a non-profit…Read More

Camp Unalayee uses #GivingTuesday to get kids…

Camp Unalayee will use #GivingTuesday to start our Year-End Fundraising Campaign with a bang! We aim to raise $3,000 (or more!) for our Campership Fund – which sends over 100 youth from diverse backgrounds to summer camp each year – in just one day. Pride Doesn’t Have to be Sacrificed for Dignity

Support the Enlisted Project (STEP) helps active duty military and recently separated veterans when financial hardship and crises result in the inability to sustain crucial living expenses. Established nearly a decade ago, the San Diego based nonprofit uses financial grants to help struggling families deal with such critical needs as emergency food purchases, essential baby items and auto repair. For young service members trying to raise a family on the San Diego economy, an expected event can shatter their family budget plan. “I know it is our responsibility. We have been trying to take care of it, but I don’t know how we’re going to feed the children if we keep trying to fix the car,” said one client’s spouse about an ongoing…Read More

“How lucky I am! I am part of a community where…

Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly (JCHE) provides affordable housing where seniors of all backgrounds can live safely and independently. Our communities, located in Greater Boston, offer a dynamic and caring environment that fosters successful aging. At JCHE, 1,500 residents can experience their senior years as an opportunity for engagement, connection and purpose. Sylvia, like so many others, moved to JCHE when she could no longer afford where she was living. She considered moving in with her children, but she did not want to crowd their lives or become dependent. She tried to cut back on her expenses, but keeping her heat off was not practical in New England and skipping medicines was not healthy. [nbsp] When an apartment…Read More
